Wigan. Part of the Philbin Office Group — established in 1966 — we bring over half a
century of commercial interiors expertise to every project we take on.
Our story
Nearly 60 years in the making
Design Business Interiors was founded in 1992 as the specialist commercial interiors arm
of the Philbin Office Group — a Wigan-based business that has been supplying office
furniture and commercial interiors solutions since 1966. That heritage matters.
It means our buying relationships with manufacturers go back decades, our knowledge of the
industry is deep, and our reputation has been built over generations rather than years.
From our base at The Glass Building in Wigan, we serve businesses and organisations
across Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Leeds and the wider Northwest — as well as
taking on projects across the UK. Over the past 30 years we have built a specialist
reputation in two areas: commercial office fit outs and gym and leisure fit outs.
We have completed over 750 large-scale projects for clients including
JD Gyms, NRG Gyms, Lifestyle Fitness and Simply Gym, alongside a broad
portfolio of office fit outs for businesses ranging from growing SMEs to established
national organisations.
What has not changed in three decades is our approach: interpret the client’s brief
precisely, design with rigour, build with care, and hand over on time. Every time.

We specialise in two areas: commercial office fit outs and gym and leisure fit outs. For offices, we deliver Cat A and Cat B fit outs, refurbishments and multi-site workplace rollouts. For gyms and leisure, we work with independent operators through to national chains, delivering full design and build packages for new gyms, refurbishments and multi-site programmes. Both disciplines are handled by the same in-house team from design through to handover.
We are based at The Glass Building in Wigan, in the heart of the Northwest. This puts us within easy reach of Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Bolton and Warrington. The majority of our office fit out work is in the Northwest, but we have delivered projects across the UK — including London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Bristol and beyond. Design Business Interiors was established in 1992 as part of the Philbin Office Group, which has been operating in the commercial interiors industry since 1966. That gives us nearly 60 years of accumulated expertise, buying relationships and industry knowledge — and over 30 years of fit out delivery specifically. We have completed over 750 large-scale projects in that time.
Both — completely in-house. Our qualified designers produce all space plans, 3D visuals and construction packages. Our project managers and construction teams then deliver the build. Nothing is outsourced. This means faster delivery, cleaner communication, and one point of accountability throughout. You deal with us from first concept to final handover.
In the gym and leisure sector, we have worked extensively with JD Gyms, NRG Gyms, Lifestyle Fitness and Simply Gym — delivering dozens of projects for each of these operators, including multi-site rollout programmes across the UK.
